Sandy Creek's SkillsUSA Members Win State Competitions
"Patriots At Work"

TYRONE, GA - The Sandy Creek High School Chapter of SkillsUSA had great success at the
2012 SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership and Skills Conference held March 15-17 at the Georgia
International Convention Center. More than 2,300 students from around the state of Georgia
attended and competed in more than 124 state and national level contests supporting students in
Architecture, Construction, Communication, Transportation, Public Safety, Cosmetology and
Culinary Arts.

The Sandy Creek Chapter set a new chapter record with 33 students competing in 21
competitions. Students also set a chapter record by medalling gold, silver or bronze in ten
competitions including each of the following Competitors who will be advancing to the SkillsUSA
National Skills & Leadership Conference to be held in Kansas City, Missouri in late June: Gavin
Baswell (Gold – Automotive Service Technology), Donovan Ivey (Gold – Diesel Equipment
Technology), Rick Steele (Gold – Mobile Electronics); Sam Brunk, Tyler Hall and Adedoyin
Osinloye (Gold – Engineering Technology). Other students who medalled were: Kevaughn
Charles (Gold – Mathematic Applications, 11th/12th Grade), Diana Lopez (Gold – Mathematic
Concepts, 9th/10th Grade), Saridh Galvan (Silver – National T-Shirt Design), Carlisle Vidourek
(Silver - Promotional Graphic Design), Keri Davis (Bronze – Prepared Speech) and Devin Roddy
(Bronze – Action Skills).

In addition to contest medalists, the following students competed and represented Sandy Creek
well while sharpening their skills across a wide-variety of disciplines: Addie Davis (Job Interview);
Macie Giordano (Promotional Graphic Design); Macie Giordano, Kysauri Davis, Laura Llorens,
Jackson Mulhall, Anish Patel, Kailyn Rainey & Joy Young (Quiz Bowl), Haley Hester (Customer
Service); Macie Giordano, Laura Llorens, Jackson Mulhall, Anish Patel, Lauren Sarkis (SkillsUSA
Georgia Commercial), Jake Nolin (Motorcycle Service), Anna Paden (Graphic Communications),
Anish Patel (Georgia Commercial), Alex Lynch, Abby Mann & Kasey Melkonian (SkillsUSA
Georgia Promotional Bulletin Board); Mat Miner & Marqus Woods (Web Design), Marissa Shenkle
(Extemporaneous Speaking); Sandra Simpson, Paula Uribe & Carlisle Vidourek (Georgia T-Shirt
Design), Carlisle Vidourek (Advertising Design), Alex Whitlock (Job Skill Demonstration Open).

The Sandy Creek Chapter is currently the 6th largest in the state and was recognized at the
conference for its increased membership and competition wins earlier in the year at the
Champions Rally.
